The Parish Lengthsmans Scheme

Mr Chris Bunn is our Parish Lengthsman.

The modern Lengthsman scheme is the re-incarnation of an old concept – a locally employed person to carry out highway maintenance tasks identified by the local community as important. It enables an enhanced local service with local priorities.

Examples of tasks completed by the Lengthsman include, clearing gully grates, digging out blocked gullies, clearing verge grips, advising landowners & frontagers when their ditches need cleaning and negotiating with frontagers for them to cut back overhanging vegetation, removing vegetation obstructing signs.

The Lengthsman’s role however has certain restrictions. For example, the Lengthsman is unable to carry out maintenance issues on A and B roads with a 40 mph speed limit. In this case the issues are reported directly to Worcestershire County Council for action.

Please contact Councillor Colin Bexley or the Parish Clerk if you have any highway maintenance concerns within Little Witley parish.
