          Parish Survey Report 2007

In response to the Parish Council’s request for parishioners to formulate a

Parish Plan a steering group was formed in the autumn of 2006. A survey

was conducted throughout the Parish to establish how the residents feel

about local issues such as housing, employment, roads, shops, recreation,

the environment, etc. and what changes (if any) they would like. Funding

was received from Awards for All.

A well-attended public meeting was held in March 2007 to discuss the

aims and objectives of the plan and the importance of obtaining maximum

participating in this activity. Following this meeting a questionaire was

delivered to all households within the parish. Completed forms were

received from over 80% of the household and the steering group would

like to thank all who participated. This response indicated a high level of

community interest into the well being of the parish.

A report from the survey was distributed to all households in October

2007.

This Parish Plan has been compiled using the information obtained from

the survey and also discussion with various interested groups. This plan is

being issued to all households within the parish.

An action plan will now be created to facilitate the implementation of the

parishioner’s wishes where practical.

What will the Parish Plan achieve

The Parish Plan sets out a vision of what is important to the

community.

It gives the Parish Council a better understanding of parishioner’s

wishes.

It gives the Parish Council greater strength when dealing with other

bodies on any of the issues raised in the survey.

The identified aims and aspirations will be carried forward into an

Action Plan giving proposal for their implementation.

Thank You

The government has invited all communities to express their needs and aspirations. Your Parish Council asked for assistance in the production of a Parish Plan. A steering group was formed in the autumn of 2006. Funding of £4,000.00 has been obtained from Awards for All to cover any direct expenditure thereby not imposing any financial burden upon the Parish Councils budget.

The steering group is liaising with Community First who are a charity formed to help ‘Building better communities’ They were of assistance in the early stages of this process and continue to be supportive.

The steering group developed a draft Survey Questionnaire that was then trialled by six households who were judged to represent the general mix of the village. Their responses indicated that only minor editorial changes were needed prior to the full survey being undertaken. In advance of the issue of the questionnaire a parish meeting was held to outline the purpose of the survey. The survey report contains the findings of the returned forms.  A copy of the full survey report will be delivered to all houses in the parish shortly.

We would like to express our thanks to all those who took the time to complete the questionnaire and those parishioners who helped the steering group with the distribution and collection of the forms.

The Objectives

  • To have a comprehensive consultation with the community.
  • To enable a representative sample of views in the Parish to be expressed.
  • Find what problems or unmet needs there are in the Parish.
  • Find out what we want our community to be like in the future.

To provide quantitative and qualitative information that can be used to establish a Parish Plan.

The Survey

There are 106 dwellings in the parish and returns were received from 86,a total of 81%.  The survey represents the opinions of 231 parishioners.

The survey forms were completed on a confidential basis without the need for names or addresses to be given. To ensure this confidentiality the collation of the information has been undertaken by someone out side the village who generally does not know the parish.

The Analysis

Each survey form had tick boxes for up to six individual persons. The surveys could be answered by anyone old enough to understand the questions.

Not all sections were completed by everyone

  • Percentages were given are a percentage of the persons who answered the specific questions.
  • Percentages have been rounded up or down so do not always add up to 100%
  • We have tried to include as many of the comments made as possible although some have been condensed.
  • Not everyone took the opportunity to make additional comments.

The report has been presented in a format that contains all the facts, yet should be easy to understand and read. Numbers and percentages of persons answering each question have been mentioned where appropriate to illustrate the distribution of responses.
